Small Changes
There are many things we can do to help save sharks and other marine animals. Small changes can make big differences. If you can follow the suggestion below, that would be great, but if you can also get your family and friends involved, that would be fantastic!
- Baking soda, salt, vinegar and natural soap are pretty much all you need to clean the entire house, including kitchen and bathroom. Visit your local library and ask for books on how to use them, or do a quick internet search for handy hints.
- If you need to buy cleaning products from shops, make sure they are bio-degradable and phosphate-free.
- Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach. Anything that advises you to wear rubber gloves when using should never go down the drain!
- Try to minimise plastic waste such as wrapping, shopping bags and plastic rings for 6-pack drinks. Millions of marine animals die because of plastic litter in the sea.
- Keep old Yellow Pages & White Pages, tear off a few pages to wipe off remaining oil, sauce etc on pots, pans and plates before washing the dishes. Never pour oil/sauce straight down the drain!
- Avoid imported fruits and support local farmers. The amount of pesticide and preservatives used on imported fruits are damaging not only to the environment but also to your health. Think of the amount of fuel/energy used to transport the goods all the way from the origin to your home.
