Shark Fin Soup

Shark fin soup is a delicacy in Chinese cuisine, fetching over $100 a bowl. It is a Chinese tradition to serve shark fin soup at a wedding banquet as a symbol of generosity and wealth. However, sooner or later there will be no sharks left in the sea to follow the custom. As many as 40 sharks are killed for each wedding.

No Shark Fin Soup, Please.

Should we catch all we can until they become extinct, or stop this needless slaughter and keep the beautiful nature in balance? Would you consider it acceptable if dolphins were killed for their fins, or lions for their paws to be served in the soup as a status symbol?

Hong Kong University banned shark fin soup at campus restaurants, and is now taking the lead in a campaign against eating shark's fin. Environmental groups succeeded in persuading Disney to take shark fin soup off the menu at Hong Kong Disneyland.
